How to plan a trip

mobile phone SIM card

When you go abroad, you can use the roaming function of major Japanese telephone companies. The price will be very high.

Therefore, if you purchase a SIM card or e-SIM from Amazon, etc., you can use it very cheaply. is better with SMS.

The reason is that SMS authentication is often required when using free Wi-Fi in Swissland.

When traveling in Switzerland, use the official Swiss National Railways app "SBB Mobile”is very convenient.

  1. First of all, you don't have to buy a ticket each time.

  2. Tickets can be purchased just before boarding.

  3. You can buy tickets for buses as well as trains.

  4. There is a discount on tickets for the next day and later.

In the past, when I traveled to Switzerland in 2019, I bought a ticket each time with a credit card at the station window, and I was afraid that the train would be late for departure. However, since I started using "SBB Mobile" once, I have no time to go to the counter and have more time to enjoy my trip.

There are few base stations except for urban areas where mobile radio waves are available, so data consumption will increase.

I've often been surprised by the increase in data usage when I leave my phone as it is while trekking. In fact, the consumption was more than three times higher than in the city.

Keep it in airplane mode when not in use. If you have a smartphone, you can turn on airplane mode by pulling down the screen. You can still keep Wi-Fi on in this case. Consumption increased by more than three times when actually compared. In other words, the cost will increase three times, which is inefficient.

Japanese TV in Switzerland

I have a video recorder from company P at my home in Japan, so I can record and watch TV on my smartphone or tablet in Japan via the internet.

When I tried connecting in Switzerland, it took some time to connect, but I was able to watch Japanese TV and recorded things in the same way as in Japan.

I felt that it was a convenient life.

To coin locker without luggage storage

lockers.jpg

In the past, there used to be face-to-face luggage storage at stations, but now there are more and more coin-operated lockers. Apart from big cities, some lockers are expensive only with coins,If it is a travel suitcase, only a large locker can fit in it, and it costs 9 CHF.

After returning to Japan, I looked it up and found that there are luggage storage facilities at large stations, but there were none at the places I visited on this trip, and I couldn't even use my credit card. It was hard for me who didn't want to use cash as much as possible.
・Small (24.8 x 42.0 x 75.0)  6 CHF
・Medium (31.7 x 61.5 x 75.0)  7 CHF
・Large (44.7 x 61.5 x 88.0)  9 CHF

SBB's luggage forwarding service

Luggage from station to station Leave your luggage at a station with a Swiss luggage delivery service and pick it up at your destination station in Switzerland two days later. One suitcase was 12 CHF. I decided to pick it up at the nearest station to the next sightseeing spot, so I went sightseeing with only the minimum amount of luggage and picked it up at a station near the hotel.
Alternatively, the package will be picked up at a Swiss address and delivered to the destination address two days later. You can choose one of four possible timeframes for both pickup and delivery. You can also choose express delivery. In this case, the package will be sent to the destination address on the same day. Please note that orders must be placed by 8:00 pm two days before the pick-up date. Bicycles can also be delivered.
