Black Forest Hike (Half the route by car)

We had a quick breakfast at a friend's house and then took a 12-mile hike in his car on the Black Forest Trail, a spot he recommended.

Although there are deciduous trees in German forests that turn yellow and brown in autumn, I have never seen the red (vermilion) autumn leaves that are found in Japan.

As someone who is used to seeing red autumn leaves, I felt a little disappointed.

No matter how many hours you walk through this forest, even if you look at a map, it is a forest of a size that cannot be found anywhere else in Japan.

There seem to be some dense forests, but this time my friend chose a hiking route with a great view.

Personally, I like places like Switzerland where you can see in all directions.

Since we couldn't walk back to the car after the hike, we called his friend to pick us up at the final destination, and we decided to wait for him, having a coffee at a nearby cafe.

After a while, we decided to go to the home of his maternal friends (a couple probably in their 80s), and we enjoyed a conversation over homemade cake and tea made from dried lemon verbena leaves that grew wild in their garden.

There were also walnuts on the table, but these were not purchased but picked from wild forests, so it seemed that they were benefiting from the forest's bounty.

I was envious of my friends and their friends, who lived in harmony with nature, with time passing slowly. I wanted to live like that when I was younger.

summary

  • It was very meaningful to experience the everyday lives of people living in Europe.

  • In the photo above of "a shot with a cow," the cow is looking directly at the camera, which made me laugh when I looked at it later.
