I decided to go up to the Niederhorn on the west side of Interlaken. The only way to get there is by bus or boat.

I took a bus to Beatenberg via Interlaken West, and then took an unusual three-cargo ropeway to the top of the Niederhorn. A TV tower was set up and we had a pleasant view of Lake Thun and the Bernese Alps.

On the way back, we took the cable car via Beatenburg down to Beatenbucht and returned to Interlaken by bus.

The Schynige Platte railroad, which opened in 1893, connects Interlaken with the next station, Wilderswil (584m), by OST train to Schynige Platte (approx. 2000m) just above it.

This mountain railway is a narrow-gauge (800mm) rack route with a height difference of 1,383m, just like playground equipment in an amusement park.

Adjacent to the station, the Alpengarten Schynige Platte (Alpine Botanical Garden) was blooming with flowers. I finally found some edelweiss. You can go around the garden on a 1 km course with almost no difference in elevation.

The attraction of this course is that you can enjoy colorful alpine flowers along with the view of the Alps. Admission free.

Walking distance: 6.3 Km
