Interlaken to Lucerne (Birthplace of Switzerland)

Visitor Card Lucerne

I got off at the Prienz (Brients) station from Interlaken OST station, which is part of the Golden Pass Line, to see the Brienz Rothorn Railway, a mountain railroad where steam locomotives remain, and the lake shore, which I had originally planned to ride. The locomotives of this railroad have raised back wheels to follow the slope from the beginning.

The next train took us to Lucerne.

The city of Lucerne is a big city, with Lake Lucerne and the beautiful old town right in front of the station.

The town developed on both banks of the Reuss River, with old bridges such as Kapellbrücke (Kapell Bridge).

Since our hotel was in the old town, it was a bit far from the hotel, and we were not sure how to get there by bus, so we walked there. The old city has many rough cobblestone streets, and it was difficult to drag our suitcases along.

The hotel was not expensive, and the city was quaint and well built. There seemed to be a church nearby, and the occasional sound of bells ringing was pleasant.

We left our luggage behind and visited the Kapell Bridge, Sproerer Bridge, Lion Monument, Hofkirche, and Musegg Wall and its nine towers. If you stay in this city, you can get a Visitor Card (Visitor Card Lucerne) via the Internet, which allows you to take the bus free of charge, although only in certain areas.
