The Gornergratbahn (GGB), a mountain railroad that runs between Zermatt GGB (1604m) and Gornergrat (3089m), is the standard route up to Gornergrat, a distance of 9.34 km and takes about one hour each way. The GGB is a rack and abt railroad that was opened in 1898, which is amazing!
A panoramic view of Switzerland's highest peak Monte Rosa (4634m), Matterhorn (4478m), Liscum (4527m), Breithorn (4164m), and other famous 4000m peaks, the Gorner Glacier, and the Findeln Glacier can be seen from the top of the mountain. We arrived at the Gornergrat viewpoint. It is no wonder that this view was visited by many tourists in the Corona Disaster.
It is a pleasant hike from Gornergrat to Riffelsee (2757m) and Riffelberg (2582m), where there is a beautiful upside-down Matterhorn on the way, and it takes about 4km and 1.5 hours with nothing to block the view.
The starting point of the mountain railroad, Zermatt GGB station, is close to Zermatt station of Swiss Railways, but the ropeway to the Matterhorn Glacier Paradise viewpoint, Zermatt, Matterhorn Tallstadt (Zermatt, Matterhorn Tallstadt), is only a few minutes away. The Zermatt, Matterhorn Talsta station is about a 20-minute walk from the Riffelberg, and there is no other means of transportation except cabs. However, from Riffelberg, you can take the ropeway down to the Matterhorn via Furi, Schwarzsee, Trockener Steg, Klein Matterhorn, and then to the Matterhorn Glacier Park. You will enjoy the view but it will take longer than walking. The Matterhorn here is perpendicular to the view from Gornagrad.
