Today we are on a long-awaited four-hour bus tour to visit the filming locations of The Sound of Music.

The bus, which seats about 60 people, was almost full.

The guide started off by making fun of the passengers with a self-deprecating joke, and the atmosphere quickly became relaxed.

When the British guide explained the places related to The Sound of Music, many of the passengers had seen the film and naturally nodded in agreement, assuming it was common knowledge.

In the car, we listen to music to fill the time while traveling.

The song "Do of Music" was played in the car, and as the guide sang, the passengers started by humming and gradually began to sing along, and by the time "Do-Re-Mi" started playing, many of the passengers were singing along in unison, getting into the groove.

We weren't able to capture the chorus scene of "Do Re Mi," but you can see the peaceful atmosphere of the other songs by watching the video on the right.

This bus tour runs twice a day and is always fully booked, which shows how much this film is loved all over the world.

The Yellow Mansion is the main entrance to the Trapp family home and was used in scenes such as Maria's first visit.

The church, located just a short hour from Salzburg, is where Maria was married.

When we arrived, it was raining and cold, so many passengers were keeping warm in the coffee shop and snack bar.

After touring this place, we finally arrived at Mirable Park just after 1pm and disbanded.

I only understood about 10% of the English spoken by British people, but I had done some preparation by rewatching the Sound of Music video, so I was able to understand the general context of the words.

Again, it is surprising that this bus tour is held twice a day and the buses are always full.

Halfway through the bus tour, it started to rain heavily and our shoes got soaked, so we gave up on sightseeing in the city after the tour ended and decided to buy dinner and breakfast at the supermarket and go home to have a good rest.

When I was shopping at the supermarket, I found a sushi section, and it seems to be popular in Austria. Although it is expensive when converted into yen, I didn't feel that the price was that much different compared to other products. (Perhaps seafood is cheaper here than in Japan.)

When we arrived at YouthHostel, we found two new young people, an Australian and an American, staying there.

summary

  • It was a bus tour that was enjoyable even if you didn't understand English, so I highly recommend it.
